Built Different.

At NorthernPro, We Build

Fortified Roofs.

Our upgraded method of installation includes sealing all gaps in the roof decking which provides
TRIPLE LEAK PROTECTION.

This ensures that if your roof ever leaks in the future, water cannot escape inside your home.

This process may provide considerable savings on your insurance premiums.

Total Roof Systems

Come Standard.

Roofers often purchase ancillary materials at the lowest price since they are installed out of sight under shingles.

However, this can lead to issues when these components are of low quality or incompatible with each other.

We only install top quality IKO brand materials that are designed to work in tandem as a complete roof system.

We chose the shingle manufacturer that puts their money where their mouth is.

Other manufacturers are removing granules from their shingles and adding loopholes to their warranties.

Meanwhile, IKO has invested $1 billion into their products since 2021.

We Install Standard:

Anatomy of a Roof

(And How to Install It Correctly)

2) Synthetic Felt

  • Underlayment is the protective moisture barrier installed under the shingles that keeps water from incurring into the roof.

  • When working with insurance carriers on claims, they will only ever pay for 15 lbs. tar paper which tears extremely easily. We upgrade every customer to synthetic felt which is a durable product that is so water-tight it qualifies as vapor resistant.

1) Ice & Water Shield

I&W is a special watertight underlayment which also mitigates the risk for ice dams to form on eaves (overhangs).

  • We go above MN code requirements by installing this upgraded underlayment not only on your eaves, but also in valleys and around all openings since these are the likeliest cause for leaks. (Except in cases of storm damage.)

2) Felt Underlayment

Underlayment is the protective moisture barrier installed under the shingles that keeps water from incurring into the roof.

  • When working with insurance carriers on claims, they will usually only pay for 15 lbs. tar paper which tears extremely easily. We upgrade every customer to synthetic felt which is a more durable product with superior moisture protection.

3) Open Valleys

The best method of installing metal in the valleys (the in-between part where two roof facets meet) is with an "open" style.

  • Leaves, branches, and other debris can easily accumulate under shingles in a closed valley, potentially causing blockages and hindering proper water flow. Open valleys are more difficult to install, but ideal for avoiding future maintenance issues.

8) Ventilation

Often overlooked, but just as important as the shingles, ventilation is absolutely vital to ensuring a roof lasts for its expected life.

  • An estimated 9/10 roofs in MN are improperly ventilated. Most roofers never rectify poor ventilation and often ignore the massive issues this can cause. An improperly ventilated roof can lead to condensation in the winter and mold in the summer.

4) Asphalt Starter

Asphalt starter is a sealant stripe that is installed on roof edges that aids in water-shedding and wind resistance at the weakest points.

  • Certain insurance carriers try to avoid paying for this critical component. We always install a starter course as it covers shingle joints and keeps them adhered at the roof edges where the shingles are most susceptible to wind damage.

7) Roof Decking / Sheathing

A roof system comes in three layers: shingles, underlayment, and decking. The roof deck provides a surface to nail shingles into.

  • Most of the time, roofers don't bother to check the attic. This is often a critical mistake as you cannot diagnose the health of a roof system without an attic inspection. We always check to ensure any hidden problems under the roof are addressed.

6) Laminate / Architectural Shingles

The industry standard roofing material. We exclusively install IKO which we believe is one of the top two brands in the industry.

  • Our roofing crews are provided real-world training direct from the manufacturer. Every shingle brand installs differently, so it is vitally important that a crew follow all manufacturer guidelines.

5) Ridge Cap

Capping shingles shield from moisture intrusion, pests, and rodents, and safeguards the components underneath from the elements.

  • Some contractors will seek to save costs by cutting 3-tab shingles into ridge material. We only install actual capping shingles to ensure that the roof is adequately protected, and to leave the project looking aesthetically pleasing.
